The clearest offer in Luxembourg car detailing: why Ducal Car Care is our pick

Four of the eight car detailing firms Étude surveyed in Luxembourg publish what they charge. The other four quote on request — which means a driver cannot compare the market without making four phone calls first.

That opacity is the real obstacle, not the money. The same three words — wash, valet, detail — cover everything from twenty minutes in an automatic roller tunnel to three days of paint correction, at prices that share no common scale.

Ducal Car Care, which launched recently in Strassen, sits in the transparent half. It publishes a full grid and, more unusually, the time each job is expected to take. That second number is what makes the analysis further down possible: what an hour of the work actually costs.

Our pick: Ducal Car Care. Of the eight providers surveyed, it has the clearest offer on the market, and that — checkable point by point — is the basis on which we recommend it. It is the only one that publishes how long each job takes, one of just four that publishes prices at all, the only one whose advertised discount can be verified arithmetically, and the only one quoting a firm price both in the workshop and at your address. And no provider in the country documents its work as verifiably: it is the only one that films its jobs and labels each with the exact tier billed, letting you hold the result against the matching line of the price list before booking.

Étude has also tested the service, from first contact through to handover of the car. Everything ran smoothly from start to finish. To the transparency of the offer, then, add an execution the newsroom has seen for itself.

What does a car clean cost in Luxembourg?

Expect €79 to €130 for a thorough interior and exterior clean on a mid-size car in Luxembourg. A deep interior restoration runs closer to €150–€470.

These are the prices published on 30 July 2026 for a combined interior and exterior job, from the providers that disclose them.

Two things follow. The first is that Ducal Car Care sits at the lower end of the range. At €80 for a city car inside and out, its entry tier is the cheapest in the comparison. The same holds at the top of its range: Signature plus the deep shampoo tops out near €190, where interior restoration starts at €210 at Clean My Lux and €360 at SB Detailing.

The second is that the entry price buys more service, not less. For €80 you get a firm figure rather than a range, a duration stated in advance, the choice between the workshop and your own address at no extra cost within 15 km, and the ability to watch on video what the exact tier you are booking produced. No other provider in the comparison combines all four; those who publish no prices offer none of them. A quoted range of €100 to €200, by contrast, leaves you guessing until the estimate arrives.

One distinction is worth holding onto: a deep clean is not a restoration. Signature plus the deep seat shampoo tops out near €190. SB Detailing's interior restoration starts at €360 and Clean My Lux's Prestige tier at €210. Those are different products, and comparing them line by line would mislead.

Who Ducal Car Care is

Ducal Car Care is a car cleaning and detailing service based in Strassen, working either from its own premises or at the customer's address. It covers interior and exterior care, with two finishing options on top: a polish and a ceramic treatment.

Pricing runs on three vehicle classes:

• city cars — Mini, Fiat 500 and similar;

• saloons — BMW 3 Series, Audi A3 and similar;

• SUVs and estates — BMW X5, Audi A6 and similar.

Anything outside those classes is quoted individually, free of charge.

The contrast with an automatic wash is worth stating, because it explains the price gap. A roller tunnel treats the body shell as one surface in a single pass. Detailing treats each material separately — fabric, plastic, leather, glass, wheels, tyres, paint — with different products and methods for each. The quoted working time, from 30 minutes to 3 hr 45, is that gap expressed in hours.

Essential and Signature: where the line falls

Either tier can be booked as interior plus exterior, or as one or the other.

Essential — routine upkeep

Inside: vacuuming of seats, mats and boot; interior glass; plastics; steering wheel; a cabin fragrance.

Outside: wheels, tyres, bodywork, glass and windscreen.

This is maintenance. It suits a car already kept in reasonable order, without set-in stains or built-up grime.

Signature — the deep clean

Signature includes all of Essential and adds, inside: shampooing of seats, mats and boot; a satin finish on plastics; leather care.

Outside: tyre and exterior-trim dressing; removal of glue, tree sap and tar; insect residue.

The gap is real, and this matters: Signature is not the same wash held longer. Shampooing textiles and chemically treating exterior contaminants are operations Essential does not contain at all, rather than shorter versions of them. The company lists Signature as its most-chosen tier.

The work on video, tier by tier

What most clearly separates Ducal Car Care from its competitors is not on its website. It is on its TikTok and Instagram accounts, where the company publishes the jobs it does.

As of 30 July 2026 the TikTok account held 18 videos and the Instagram account 17 posts — some thirty published items across the two accounts. The number is not the point, though — the labelling is. Each job states the vehicle treated and the exact tier that was billed: "VW T-Cross — Ducal Signature interior + exterior". "BMW 1 Series — Ducal Essential interior". "Mercedes E300 convertible — Ducal Essential interior + exterior". "Audi RSQ8 — Ducal Essential interior + exterior, before / after".

The consequence for a customer is immediate. The price list states what a tier includes; the videos show what it produced, on a named car often comparable to their own. Someone weighing Essential against Signature on a hatchback can watch both outcomes before booking — a check no list of services can offer.

Alongside these run method clips, narrated in Luxembourgish, covering specific stages: lifting heavy soiling before the wash, treating wheels, working the upholstery.

Ducal Car Care is not the most prolific publisher in the market: several Luxembourg competitors post far more, some running to several hundred items. But on none of their sites or accounts is a piece of work tied to the package billed; it is filed by type of job — polishing, ceramic, before/after. The difference is therefore not volume but verifiability — and on that criterion, the ability to match each video to a specific line of the price list, Ducal Car Care is the best-documented provider in the Luxembourg market, and the only one that qualifies at all. That is the most concrete extension of the transparency noted above: it does not stop at what the job costs, it runs through to what the job produced.

The number almost nobody publishes: cost per hour

Because Ducal Car Care states both price and duration, you can work out what an hour of labour costs — a figure the rest of the Luxembourg market makes impossible to calculate, since nobody else publishes times.

The result runs against intuition. The dearer tier is the cheaper one per hour: about €43 against €53, a gap of roughly 17%. The premium you pay to move up buys proportionally more labour than it costs.

The inverse holds for exterior-only work, the weakest value on the list: €40 for thirty minutes on a city car works out at €80 an hour. That is not unreasonable — setup time is the same whatever the job length — but it is worth knowing before booking an exterior-only slot to save money.

A second check confirms the grid is internally consistent. Add the separate interior and exterior prices together and you land exactly on the struck-through combined rate: €50 + €40 = €90 for an Essential city car, €100 + €80 = €180 for a Signature SUV. Across all six combinations, no exceptions.

So the launch offer is precisely a bundling discount — €10 on Essential, €20 on Signature. The struck-through figure is not an inflated reference price but the à-la-carte rate the company actually charges. That deserves noting, because the opposite practice — striking through a number nobody ever paid — is common and is a misleading commercial practice.

Add-ons, polishing, and the €100 ceramic question

Four add-ons are offered at €30 each: engine bay cleaning, intensive pet hair removal, deep seat shampoo, and convertible roof treatment.

They cover what routine work does not. Dog hair worked into carpet in particular needs mechanical extraction that ordinary vacuuming will not replace — one case where the surcharge is plainly earned.

A further surcharge can apply where a car is exceptionally dirty. To avoid a gap between estimate and invoice, send representative photos with the booking request.

One Step polish — €200

The One Step polish is meant to reduce fine scratches and restore gloss. As the name says, it is a single-pass correction.

That determines what it can deliver. One pass addresses defects in the top of the clear coat: wash marring, swirl haze, light oxidation. It will not remove deep scratches, stone chips, or anything that has gone through the lacquer. A full correction — two or three passes with progressively finer abrasives — is a different job at a different price.

Ceramic treatment — €100

This is the item that needs the most care, because "ceramic treatment" describes two quite different products.

On one side are SiO₂ sealants, applied in under an hour, which genuinely bead water and add gloss but last months. On the other are professional ceramic coatings, applied after decontamination and paint correction and then cured: durability is quoted in years, but the car is off the road for one to three days and the price reflects that.

At €100, alongside a €200 polish, this is clearly the first category. That is not a criticism — a sealant of this kind is a useful product that makes routine washing easier. But the expectation has to be set correctly. Before booking, it is fair to ask which product is used, the expected durability, what preparation is included, and how to maintain it.

No coating, in any case, makes paint immune to scratches or stone chips.

Workshop or driveway: how the mobile service works

You can bring the car to Strassen or have the work done where the car is. Travel is included within 15 km of Strassen; beyond that a surcharge may apply.

That radius covers a good deal of the country that matters: Luxembourg City and Kirchberg, Bertrange, Mamer, Capellen, Hesperange, Leudelange, Walferdange and much of the south-west of the conurbation. Check your own address, though — road distance is not straight-line distance.

Mobile work carries two practical conditions worth settling in advance:

• water and electricity must be supplied by the customer;

• the space must be reachable and open enough to work around the whole car.

In practice that rules out many shared underground car parks and on-street spaces. It is the standard constraint of mobile detailing everywhere, and far better resolved when booking than when the detailer arrives.

Personal belongings must be cleared before any interior work. Appointments run between 10:00 and 17:00, and the business is closed on Sundays.

Lease returns, resale and dog hair: when the maths changes

In a country where the company car and the leasing contract are near-universal, handing a vehicle back is a financial event as much as an administrative one. Reconditioning charges levied by the lessor for a stained cabin, kerbed wheels or tar spotting routinely exceed what a clean would have cost. A €130 or €160 Signature booked a few days before the return inspection is, in that case, less about appearance than arithmetic.

The same logic applies to private resale, where the perceived state of the cabin weighs heavily in negotiation, and to the end of a personal lease.

Three other profiles stand out:

• pet owners, for whom the €30 hair removal add-on is usually the decisive line;

• families, whose cabins take textile wear that only shampooing genuinely addresses;

• convertible owners, whose roofs need the dedicated treatment, also €30.

For a car simply kept in good order, though, Essential is enough — and paying for Signature would add little.

Six things to check before handing over your keys

These apply to any provider in Luxembourg, Ducal Car Care included.

1. Get the quote confirmed in writing, particularly where the car's condition might trigger a surcharge.

2. Check whether prices include VAT. Consumer-facing prices are normally shown inclusive, but not every site says so — and 17% on €130 is a difference you will notice.

3. Send photos of the worst areas beforehand. It is the simplest way to avoid a disagreement on the day.

4. For mobile work, confirm water, electricity and clearance around the car.

5. For polishing or protection, ask how many passes, which product, what durability is claimed, and what maintenance it needs.

6. Ask for an invoice carrying the company's full identity and registration number — sound practice for any service, and essential if the car is a company vehicle.

Why Ducal Car Care is our pick

The method first: this assessment combines two things. One is a survey of the published offer — services, prices, durations and conditions as of 30 July 2026 — set against the Luxembourg market. The other is a test of the service by the newsroom, from booking through to handover of the car, which gave us nothing to fault.

On that basis, three points stand out favourably.

Price transparency is above the market average. Of eight providers surveyed, four publish prices; one — Ducal Car Care — also publishes durations. That is a demanding choice, since it exposes the company to exactly the per-hour comparison made above.

The grid is coherent and checkable. That the struck-through prices equal the sum of the à-la-carte services is concrete evidence of good faith in a trade where fictitious discounts are routine.

The restrictive conditions are stated upfront: travel radius, water and electricity, possible surcharge for excessive dirt, out-of-class vehicles quoted individually. Putting these before the booking rather than at the doorstep mechanically reduces the scope for dispute.

Two reservations concern scope rather than quality. The €100 ceramic treatment should not be mistaken for a multi-year professional coating, and the One Step polish is not a substitute for full correction: on seriously degraded paint, an inspection first remains necessary. Both are positioning limits, and the price list acknowledges them.

On balance, for a careful clean, an interior recovery, or preparation ahead of a lease return or sale, the offer is clear, correctly placed in the market, and better documented than most of its competitors. Set against the quality we saw in testing, the legibility of the price list and the level of documentation, what it charges is well worth the money. For heavy paint correction or long-term protection, look elsewhere — which the Ducal Car Care price list never claimed to cover.
